News Release 142-Homicide Investigation 1609 7th Street North

Homicide investigation

The Birmingham Police Department reports that detectives are investigating a homicide. The incident happened on Saturday July 16, 2022.

The victim has been identified as Larry Taylor (47), b/m, of Birmingham, Alabama.

At approximately 7:30 a.m., the 911 communications division received a call from a shot person at the Keeton Correctional Facility located at 1609 7e North Street. Upon arrival, officers were informed that the victim had been transported to St. Vincent’s Hospital by a private vehicle. The victim was pronounced dead by hospital staff.

Preliminary investigation revealed the victim was exiting the facility when approached in the parking lot by the shooter. The shooter fired several shots fatally wounding the victim. The suspect fled the scene heading south on the 7e Street North in a white sedan. The victim was targeted and the suspect is at large. Detectives have not identified a motive in this homicide.
